Luna

Quick movie of Luna chasing a red laser dot from an automated toy I bought. Pure awesomeness!

The movie is too big to embed (resolution-wise) so I’m just adding the link instead

Media centre, Hal, Michael Cera

Warning: This post is going to have some geeky stuff in it, so feel free to skip past the next couple of sections!

Finally finished setting up my media centre – mostly. Still have to configure the network and convert all my movies to iTunes-format. I started looking into Plex, but it’s really useless to me as it can’t read movies from my iTunes library. After a lot of googling and research I found that Boxee won’t be able to do it either. Both projects are apparently working on it, but I know how long these things normally take, so I’m not going to wait around.

That’s why I decided to just go with Front Row which, in all fairness, really gets the job done. I want to be able to browse my music and watch my movies and TV-Shows on my TV. Front Row does all those things, so other than being able to choose skins I don’t really see any advantage for me by using Plex, Boxee or other alternatives.

As I mentioned in my other post, my network drive was malfunctioning on the same day I got it. I decided to do a little investigation, and decided to open it. Turns out it was the fan cable that wasn’t connected properly from the factory! Crappy work if you ask me, but at least I got it sorted out! I also found out that Front Row will automatically be able to pull media files directly from the drive without me having to make aliases over the network. A big bonus, and it will also work with my PlayStation 3!

Oh, and I named it Hal! Why? Well, I’ll let the picture talk for itself:

If you don’t get the reference, there is no hope for you…

Downloaded two new movies with Michael Cera off iTunes yesterday, and I fell in love with both of them! The first one is called “Youth in Revolt”, and the second one ids “Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist”. Being Michael Cera, you know they will be filled with awkward scenes and subliminal, twisted humour. Just my kind of film in other words! I’m not going to say too much about these, but here are the links for the films on IMDB:

Youth in Revolt: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403702/
Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0981227/

Also, since a picture says more than a thousand words, I’ll include the trailers. Must be at least a billion words worth of pictures (They’ve disabled embedding on Youth in Revolt, so I’ll just post the link):

Well worth a look, both of them!

That’s about it I think. New week coming up, barbecue tomorrow and hopefully Anina remembers our True Blood date! Going back to my sofa now, filled after a big round of steak and beer!

Police, Mac Mini, LaCie

Got home from work the other day, and the entire neighbourhood was flooded with police. Was walking to the store, and passed several officers interviewing people, so must have missed some action… They also entered one of the houses not far from here, a guy we just refer to as “the collector” as he has some kind of phobia against throwing things away. Haven’t managed to figure out what happened yet, but am curious as never before to find out…!

Apple released a new Mac Mini yesterday, and I must have it! The perfect solution for my media center, just need the storage space now! I’m first in line, so will hopefully get it this week! Feeling impatient like a kid on christmas eve… Fun feeling!

Sexyness!

Sexyness!

Also bought a LaCie 2Big Netowrk 2 3TB disk today, only to learn that the fan doesn’t work… Will check my options, and will hopefully be able to just get a swap unit so I don’t have to wait for a month for LaCie to repair it. Extremely frustrating, as I was planning on making it my media centre hub, with connections to my Mac Mini as well as my PS3. Frustrated…

Blogging on iPad, Music

Testing out the WordPress app for iPad, fun invention! ^__^

I finally finished sorting my iTunes library, the music at least… All songs now have an artwork, rating and is positioned in appropriate playlists. Took me about 6 months on and off, but I finally did it! Will spend the rest of the evening listening to my favourite tracks and relaxing on the sofa with Luna.

Mainly just posted this one to test the WordPress app on my iPad, better posts will come ;)

Look at the neat screenshot from my iPad. Nothing like having a complete iTunes library!

Cat, surgery, diet

Been a long long time since I updated here!
This is why I really can’t blog, it seems that I just can’t keep a steady schedule for it, so I tend to be active for a while but then fall out again…

Anyways, a few things have happened since last, so I’ll just summarise them here without going too far into them.

I finally got a cat! Been wanting one for 3 years now, but just haven’t taken the time and money for it until I had an option come to me a little while ago. I picked her up in early May, and her name is Luna!
I wrote a little about her in my previous post, but now that I’ve had her for a month I can say that she is without a doubt the best cat ever born! I could write a book about all the strange things I’ve caught her doing, all the different looks she has, as well as her extreme curiosity of the world around her. But I’m not going to.

Instead, I’ve taken a picture of her, so you all can see her beautiful and peaceful face as she is lying on her small podium while contemplating how to most efficiently wake me up in the middle of the night.

I also had what is hopefully my final surgery for my toes yesterday. Spending the day at home watching old Monty Python movies and keeping my toe elevated while chewing antibiotics and drinking water. a great way to spend the weekend! Hopefully it will be successful (won’t know for sure until a couple of weeks have passed) and then I can start wearing normal shoes instead of always using my Nike running shoes all the time…

Don’t cut your nails down the side, it only creates a world of pain for you!

I also started dieting about two weeks ago. Am already down by almost 3kg, so looks like my plan worked out nicely… Getting all the vitamins, proteins etc that I need, so just need to keep of that sugar and keep eating the same way I am now. Will also be able to start exercising again once my toe has healed, so that will help a long way as well…

Oh well, that is all for now. But I will try to be better at updating this! Have a few ideas in the pipeline, so stay tuned!

Operation, Cleaning, New design, Kitten, Budget, Sister

Finally had my operation two weeks ago. Simple procedure really, just cut a little bit, slice off a piece of the nail and some small cysts that had gathered, and then treat the nail with some phenol and finally put on some bandages.

The doctor forced on me some strong painkillers, but so far I’ve only had the need to use two of them as the tranquilliser started to wear off after the procedure.

Toe is looking good so far, and is healing up nicely. Will probably be good in a week or two, and ready to do the next foot!

Also, started the infamous spring cleaning this weekend. Still not completely done, but not much left. Guess I’ll spend these days doing the smaller things, and then do the final thrust on Saturday…

Found a new theme for the blog, as I’m sure you’ve noticed if you’ve been here more than half a time before! I like this one, simplistic and simple. Just the way I like it! Am a little disappointed in the width of the site, so will see if I can find the correct sections to alter it… Will do it when I have the time and patience… Also linked a new domain to it: http://jordbær.is – for those of you who don’t understand norwegian it means strawberry ice! You can still use the old URL as well of course… Both will link to the same blog, but the new on will be easier to remember for my norwegian friends :)

Getting a kitten! That’s right, a cute little white furry kitten! Getting it sometime in May probably, been wanting a cat for so many years and finally feel that I can be able to support having one around. Will be a small cost increase, but not all that bad really. Can hardly wait! Also have a picture of it, a bit blurry, but who cares? It’s a kitten!!!
Look at the cuteness! Will probably post a thousand pictures once I get it, so no sweat :)

Decided to go on a budget lately. Will spend most of my money paying down on debt. Going for a debt free new years eve. So far so good, paid about NOK 27 000 in bills this month, and regret it like hell now…. Guess that’s the way it goes… At least I have a little less debt now… Fingers crossed for being good at following my own budget!

And, as a good timing my sister is coming to visit me! Haven’t seen her for… 8 or 9 years I think, so I’m very excited about seeing her again! She’ll be staying here for a couple of days from Sunday. Will probably post more during the next week :)

Party, Web developing, Train, Living healthy

Got back from Hamar yesterday, visited Camilla to get away from Oslo and not be alone to let the thoughts fly around as they tend to do. Incidentally, she was having a party this weekend, so it all fit together nicely even though I have to watch my alcohol consumption carefully due to being on antibiotics.
I got to know a few new people, although as it is most of the time with these parties, I don’t think I’ll keep in touch with any of them, haha!

Also assisted Camilla and Monica in developing their website some more. They’re doing a school assignment where they have to design and build a website, so I finally found a place where I can use all the knowledge I have built up in these years of hobbyist web development!

I learned something new about trains in Norway yesterday, but I can’t really understand it… I was going to take the train from Hamar to Oslo, which means I have to take the train that is going from Trondheim. This train is always filled to the rim, so finding a place to sit is proven to be very difficult. Anyways, I managed to find a place to sit in the food cart, but apparently I was on the wrong set. I was supposed to be on the front set of wagons, but I was given no explanation as to why… Anyhow, the ticket-guy was nice enough to let me sit in the seat I had finally been able to grab a hold of! But guess I learned a lesson, so will definitely be going on the front set the next time! Silly really, as the train goes to Oslo anyway…

Decided today to change my diet, so went to the shop and bought lots of healthy food (and of course, some unhealthy. Rome wasn’t built in one day!), so my fridge is now filled with good and healthy food! And some food in the freezer as well! Will be fun to see how this works out during the next week…

Back to the doctor on thursday, will hopefully be able to start slicing up my big toes now. Getting fed up with these nails, am not far from cutting them off entirely…
And I want a cat! Made best friends with Camilla’s angry cat. She warned me that he will suddenly strike at you or bite you, but he was just super cuddly and cute.

Doctor, Streptococcus, Antibiotics, Weekend

Was at the doctors office today with my feet again. I have in grown toe nails on both my feet and need to have them surgically fixed, but before they will operate I have to get rid of the infection that has taken place in my toes.
I received some antibiotics last week to use, but it turns out that the little microbes are resistant to the penicillin I got, so it really didn’t o much good…

Also, turns out it’s not only Staphylococcus as they thought, but also Streptococcus. Can’t remember if it’s A or B but it doesn’t really matter too much really. Anyways, got some new meds today, 500mg keflex. And for some reason taking one of these pills make me tired and a little bit dizzy. Normal side effects apparently, but annoying nonetheless. Here’s to hoping I can do one of the two remaining surgeries next week.

Tomorrow is friday, and we all know what that means – weekend! Going straight from work to Hamar where I will be visiting Camilla for the weekend. She’s having a party on saturday as well, but I can’t drink too much while on antibiotics, so I guess I better just stock up on the Coca-Cola!

I’m off to find an outfit to wear, and then going to bed to get some sleep before a rather long day tomorrow, hope everyone has a great weekend!

Camilla, Dinner, MacJournal, Drunk friends, Great friends

Had camilla over fro Thursday to Friday, and as usual we ended up filling our guts with food. Good food that is! We made some mexican pot, then mixed together some aioli and served with salad and bread fresh from the oven.

wpid-dinner.IeG5o4gvva5r.jpg

On Friday we went to see one of Camilla’s friends here in Oslo, and we decided to go eat sushi. Her friend said this had the track of being the best sushi bar in Oslo. I can not for the life of me understand why, as it was highly disappointing… They did not use proper rice, and they also used too little rice for the sushi. The maki was OK, but that’s not enough really… Guess I’ll continue to stick with Le Meo.

Also discovered an application called MacJournal that allows me to write to the blog directly from an app. No need to launch a browser and log in via the web interface. Awesomeness! Will be testing it for the next few updates. Oh, yeah, I got it through the MacHeist NanoBundle, but it’s already ended so no need to think more about it!

Was talking to Agnethe yesterday, haven’t talked for ages… Was fun, even though she was drunk. Drunken noodle queen!
wpid-Screenshot2010-03-13at23.33.21.TkuSNelKdUkb.jpg

And I just have to say it once more. I am lucky enough to have the worlds best friend. I know everyone say that at least once in their life, but this one really is the best, hands down. Thank you for all your support, and all our great conversations. You know I love you, and always will, no matter what. You know who you are haba! :D

Also played some more Final Fantasy today. That is, about 5 hours worth… Got around to kicking Odin’s ass, and being thoroughly annoyed at how incompetent some of the characters can be. Nevertheless, I still enjoy it…

That’s all for now I guess, tomorrow is another day at work, and next weekend I’ll be in Hamar if my foot will allow it!

Sushi, Alice in Wonderland, Final Fantasy and broken iPhone

I love sushi. The person that invented sushi should get the nobel price for… something! And Le Meo Sushi in Oslo should be on your list of places to visit if you’re out for sushi in Oslo!

I was at Le Meo with Anina the other day, an old colleague from a few years back. It was very pleasant, and we had a lot of fun – when we suddenly decided to go see Alice in Wonderland after the sushi.

I was a little sceptical to the movie, partially because I knew it wasn’t really Alice in Wonderland, but more like Return of Alice. I won’t go too much into detail, but I wasn’t very convinced about the movie, and seeing Alice in a full body armour wielding a sword while fighting a dragon just felt too much like Narnia for me…

Also, I bought Final Fantasy XIII on tuesday! Been waiting for this game for about 3 years now, so needless to say I’m quite satisfied at the moment! Been playing 4 hours straight today, and I enjoy it a lot, even though it’s kind of confusing to follow the story line at this point in the game. I guess it will be clearer and more logical as I advance, but at the moment I don’t really understand much of it… Got the plans ready for the weekend though – chips, bacon, dip, beer and Final Fantasy. Awesome!

And also, I had to send in my iPhone for service today, got some particles that managed to get under the screen, so I’m stuck using my old iPhone until I get it back. And of course, I forgot to save the pictures on it, so lost about 50 pictures… Oh well, got myself to thank there for being stupid despite the fact that I know better…

But back to Final Fantasy now, can’t sleep until I’ve saved Sarah at least!
